The AR392 side shields (batwings) provide a seal surface between the valley plate and the cylinder head when using a ported heads. The factory bathtub type gasket works just fine with unported heads but the bathtub gasket does not provide a good sealing surface when the heads are fully ported. Aftermarket heads such as the Trick Flow 240 heads require the intake gasket to be located precisely or else the intake flow will restricted.
The AR392 side shields allow the intake gaskets to be positioned perfectly over the ports. Order AR397 for Max Wedge size ports.
